With not one, but two, trips to the pumpkin patch, I think it's safe to say that autumn is officially here! Here's what's putting a little extra pep in my step these days:
Hello, friends! Sorry for the brief hiatus. There was the return to work, and P2's transition to daycare (which also threw P1's routine off, so we were back to tears every morning for her too), and P2 turned one!!! and back to back arraignment shifts, and the cold that wouldn't end, and and and . . . .
But there's lots of stuff in the works. Recipes (including homemade matzoh ball soup and a fast weeknight dinner), parenting notes and observations (including how I figured out to yell *a little* bit less), ethical fashion round-ups (work bags and jewelry and boots, oh my!), interviews with more bad-ass women and more ways to incorporate activism into your every day (plus a quick eco-friendly laundry trick). I hope you'll stay tuned!
In the meantime, a look at where I've been spending (some of) my internet time:
And on a significantly lighter note (because we could all use one):
Happy Labor Day, y'all! Grateful for this extra day off, even as we spend it cooped up inside, potty training a toddler who keeps expressing sadness at losing her diapers. Sigh. Hopefully your plans involved more fun and fewer arguments. If you're still trying to think of what to bring to your potluck/BBQ/picnic, I've rounded up some of our favorites from the archives and around the web. And if you have any potty training tips, please share them in the comments below!
Hello, chickadees! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

We're heading off for a long weekend in Lake Tahoe tomorrow, but before I go, a couple interesting tidbits:
*NYC eliminating money bail for low-level and non-violent offenders is excellent news.
*More good news: hooray for women's sports and the World Cup and Title IX and little girls having fierce role models to look up to.
*On a related note, who else is excited for the all-female Ghostbusters reboot?
*It's just not summer without lobster rolls.
*Let's just pop some popcorn and watch how this fight between New York's governor and the City's mayor turns out.
*Chicago is going to start taxing Netflix! Interesting to see what impact this will have and whether other areas join them.
*I can't sit in an office in the summer time without a sweater, and some of my coworkers even have space heaters going under their desks to combat the artificial freeze.
*Fish tacos > other kinds of tacos.
*Tacos > sandwiches (says the girl with Southern California in her bones).
*Ice cream in a cone > ice cream in a cup.
*Runny yolks > hard-boiled eggs.
*Cold-brewed coffee > regular brewed coffee poured over ice.
*Vietnamese iced coffee > American iced coffee.
*(This is a controversial one, possibly regarded as blasphemous, but one which, after much thought and tasting, I'm committed to:) Cake > pie.
*Concerts in the park > concerts in a bar.
*Reading a real book > reading a book on a screen.
*As far as holiday weekends are concerned, Friday off > Monday off (but either > no holiday at all).
